Accra Hearts of Oak have suffered another defeat in the premier league after losing to Tarkwa based Medeama Sporting Club by 1-0 on Thursday afternoon.
The Phobians were hoping to make amends against the Yellow and Mauves in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) match day 12 fixture on Thursday after falling to city rivals Accra Great Olympics at their own backyard by 2-0, but the mission was not meant to be as Phobians suffered another defeated for a successive time.
The game proved to be a clash of the giants with high intensity, but Justice Blay’s solitary strike in the second half was enough to hand Coach Samuel Boadu’s side maximum points. The last time Justice Blay faced the Phobians was during his loan spell at Asante Kotoko, and he scored the opener in the game against Hearts of Oak in Accra, and the Porcupines went ahead to win the game by 2-1 in the 2019/2020 truncated league season.
Both teams went into the game as wounded lions after Medeama also lost the Western derby last weekend to rivals Karela United also by 2 goals unanswered.
Medeama started the 2020/2021 GPL season on a very low key at home, going without a win at home in their first 3 home matches. Justice Blay found the back of the net in the 50th minute of the second half to win the day for Medeama against Kosta Papic’s Hearts of Oak. The win means Medeama have now turned the tables around and have won all three of the last home matches.
The three points accumulated today has moved them up on the league standings to 9th place with 17 points while Hearts sit 11th with 16 points after twelve rounds of matches played.
