Former Asante Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong has admonished the current crop of players to work extra hard to secure good results in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup match against ES Setif.
Asante Kotoko will lock horns with their Algerian counterparts in the final knockout phase in the 2020/21 Confederation Cup competition.
And Amos Frimpong who spent eight seasons with the Ghanaian giants is anticipating a qualification for Kotoko despite the game being a herculean task for the Porcupines.
In an exclusive interview with the former right-back for B/A United with www.Ghanasportspage.com said, “It is a difficult game for Kotoko coming Sunday. ES Setif is doing well in their league, and, one of the biggest clubs in Algeria in terms of history and achievements.”
“ Kotoko must work extra hard, though in their last four games, they have started producing some phenomenal performance. It must continue on Sunday so that the return fixture will be a mere formality.
ES Setif is one of the most successful clubs in Algeria, having won the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 eight times and the Algerian Cup a record of eight times. They are also one of only three Algerian clubs to have won the CAF Champions League, winning it twice in 1988 and 2014. They have also won the Arab Champions League twice, in 2007 and 2008, as well as three North African Cups in 2009 and 2010. In 2015, they became the first Algerian club to win the CAF Super Cup.
ES Sétif became CAF Champions League champion by defeating DR Congo’s AS Vita Club in the 2014 final; and the reigning CAF Super Cup champions, by beating Egypt’s Al Ahly in the 2015 Super Cup[4] and the reigning Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 champions.
The big match comes off this Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium on February 14, 2021.
