Ghana and Steadfast FC prodigy Abdul Fatawu Issahaku emerged Player of the Tournament after helping Ghana to win gold, her 4th title at the jus-ended U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania.
The 16-year old Steadfast FC promising talent scored two goals in 6 games for Ghana in the tournament, and that, coupled with his dribbling displays enlightened the stadium each time he was in action.
Fatawu beat off competition from Uganda’s young attacker Derrick Kakooza, who was a great contender for the award after finding the net on 5 occasions in the tournament.
The emerging future star, Fatawu, announced his presence in the tournament with his astounding displays. He earned for himself a standing ovation after scoring a screamer from the centre in Ghana’s opening game against Tanzania. He complemented his efforts with another magical goal from a free kick against Gambia in Ghana’s last group game.
Team Ghana was a delight to watch throughout the tournament, partly due to the youngster’s amazing displays in the midfield which enable his side to boss most of the games played.
He helped Ghana to beat Uganda in the final on Saturday to win their first U-20 AFCON title since they last did in 2009. Ghana has now won the U20 AFCON for four times; 1993, 1999, 2009 and now in 2021.
