Ghana Premier League side, AshantiGold Football Club, has been hailed for their promotion of the Obuasi township.
Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom is elated by the number of successful footballers the Obuasi township have produced and is even happier with the contribution of Ghana giants, Ashgold.
The Obuasi township is home to many illustrious former and current footballers notably amongst them being John Mensah, who captained the Ghana Black Stars at the CAF Nations Cup.
Ashgold, a club formed in 1978 and two-time winners of the Ghana topflight league, has been the major influencer, being the parent club to several of the players.
Addressing the press at the commissioning of the rehabilitated Boetey Town Park in the Obuasi East constituency, the Member of Parliament counted Obuasi as one of the main contributors to the Ghana national teams.
“I will like to commend Ashantigold Sporting Club for consistently projecting the name of Obuasi and that matter Adansiman through Football to the world”.
“For so many years, the team is still composed and intact regardless of its ups and downs”, he added.
“Obuasi have provided Ghana with lots of talented players like John Mensah, Jonathan Mensah, Kadri Mohammed, Daniel Opare just to mention a few to the national teams”, he enumerated.
“You can not mention football without Obuasi and its contribution to the development of Ghana football”, he said.
The park was headed over to the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, who henceforth would be managing the facility.
