Aduana Stars earned a stunning comeback win over league chasers Great Olympic in Accra. Sam Adams doubled inspired a spirited Ogya lads to a famous 3-2 victory over Oly Dade at the Accra sports stadium-
Maxwell Abbey had put the host ahead in the first half with a fine finish from the edge of the box after a controlled first-half performance from Olympics. The host started on the front foot with Akaminko, Michael Otoo, Gladson Awako controlling the midfield actions. Awako was denied by the woodwork after a delightful free-kick to put the Accra-based team ahead.
Abbey tried a long pass from the middle but Aduana’s goalkeeper Massawudu was there to clear before Maxwell Quaye could cause any trouble. Maxwell Abbey was denied in the 33rd minute after a point black header from a good team move. But Massawudu parried the goal-bound header away from the attacker.
Olympics drew the first blood immediately after the save. Maxwell Abbey once again was at it with a powerful drive from the edge of the 18-yard box to put Great Olympics in front. Gladson Awako found Abbey three minutes before the break but the attacker’s effort went wide.
Benjamin Tweneboah was brought on after the break as Aduana surgeon. Olympics should have made it two but Darlington’s shot went wide after a pin-point cross from Ashie Quaye. Abdul Mudasiru was brought on at the hour mark to close the game for Olympics.
The striker made an instant impact to register Olympics’ second goal. Arriving in the 18-yard box to direct Gladson Awako’s free-kick into the roof of the net. The Bono-based team made another change. Introducing the Ex-GoldStars defender Farouk Adams.
Sam Adams pulled one back for the visitors after a poor marking in the box to give the former champions a lifeline. Aduana Stars grew in confidence as the game progresses believing that they could snatch another goal. Gladson Awako combined with Maxwell Quaye but the attacker’s effort went wide as they look to close the game down from much improved Aduana’s second-half display.
Richard Natan came on eight minutes to time as Aduana seek the leveler. Bright Adjei slotted home a fine acrobatic finish to draw the former champions level after an intense pressure from Aduana Stars few minutes to end proceedings. Olympics nearly retook the lead but a superb save from Massawudu denied the host.
The missed chance proved crucial as Sam Adams scored his second on the night when he directed Aduana’s free-kick to the roof of the net.
The victory moves the former Champions seventh on the league log as they completed a double over Olympics.
