Liberty Professionals have been relegated from the Ghana Premier League for the first time in 22 years after drawing goalless with King Faisal in Sogakope.
The Dansoman-based club struggled from the first round of the season. Although the team will improve after moving their home venue to Sogakope, it has not been enough to save the side from the drop.
Needing a win in their last game of the season after earning a crucial 1-1 drawn game against champions Hearts of Oak last weekend, Liberty today hoped to steal three points from the noses of relegation-threatened King Faisal.
At the end of a match that was crucial for both teams, neither side could score and as a result had to settle for a point apiece on the back of a 0-0 draw. The scientific soccer lads failed to add to their 40 points in the relegation six-pointer to end their stay in the Ghana Premier League.
The Carl Reindorf based outfit qualified to the topflight in 1999 and have since produced some top stars in the league including Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari, Baffour Gyan, Derick Boateng, John Paintsil among others.
Liberty Professionals joined Inter Allies FC and Ebusua Dwarfs FC as the three relegated teams for the 2020/21 GhPL season.
