Former Asante Kotoko striker has torn into coach Mariano Barreto over his reckless comments after the club’s defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup.
Barreto called out the club over the state of their Adako Jachie training facility which according to him doesn’t befit a big club.
The Portuguese tactician replaced Johnson Smith as coach of the Porcupine but only managed a second-place finish in the Ghana Premier League as rivals Hearts of Oak won the title. Kotoko have also exited the MTN FA Cup after losing on penalties against Berekum Chelsea.
Speaking after the defeat to Chelsea, Barreto bemoaned the state of the Adako Jachie training centre, highlighting particularly the lack of a changing room and toilet facilities.
“For a big club like Kotoko, I can’t fathom how our players come to training and have to go to toilet and urinate in the bush”.
“All the conditions we have are not proper for a professional club. We are training without addressing room. We are training without a single washroom”
However, in response to the 64-year-old’s recent remarks, Bekoe wrote on his Facebook page saying, Barreto should focus on building a better team than be making excuses for his failure.
It is unclear if Barreto who signed a year and a half contract will remain in charge of Asante Kotoko with many interpreting his call for better facilities as a sign of his unwillingness to stay on.
