Technical Director for Legon Cities FC, Maxwell Konadu, has highlighted what made the difference between Ghana Premier League (GPL) winners Hearts of Oak and second place Asante Kotoko in the just ended 2020/2021 season.
According to the ex-Black Stars assistant coach, the Phobians found solutions to their problem while the Porcupine Warriors lacked unity.
Asante Kotoko led the eventual winners by a margin of seven points but somehow lost the title to their bitter rivals, Hearts of Oak who beat the former in a decider before clinching the trophy on the last day.
Speaking in an interview with Nhyira FM, the former Asante Kotoko manager hailed Hearts’ players while pointing to Samuel Boadu’s mid-way appointment as the right decision.
“I think what did the trick for Hearts of Oak is putting themselves together at the time they were trailing Kotoko by 7 points.
I believe they saw the lapses in the team so they did the right thing by bringing in Samuel Boadu who played an important role in winning the league. But the players were exceptional and determined.”
On Kotoko, he said: “From players to the technical team I think there was no unity. Because from what we heard on the radio and read in the newspaper, I think the was no unity.”
At the moment, Asante Kotoko has exited the MTN FA Cup, falling to Berekum Chelsea on penalties while Hearts of Oak are on course for a double as they play Medeama SC in the semi-final.
