The Executive Committee of the Ghana football association(GFA) and the Black Stars management committee will tomorrow (10th of September, 2021) meet and review the technical report from the head coach of the senior national team.
The former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak head coach has come under stern criticism following a string of poor results, with the latest a 1-0 defeat to South Africa in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
According to the reports from GhanaSoccernet, the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will vote at an Executive Council meeting tomorrow to remove CK Akonnor from his position in bid to save Ghana from missing out on a place at the 2022 World Cup to be staged in Qatar next year.
The reports further indicates that several members of the Executive council who made the trip the trip to South Africa and also saw the Black Stars play will report to the meeting that Akonnor has lost the dressing room of the Black Stars.
Private conversations of Black Stars players with some management which confirms that they have no confidence in the coach will also come to the fore of the discussions.
The reports also adds that the widespread call from Ghanaians for CK Akonnor to be sacked following Ghana’s poor display in recent games will also be factored in his sacking.
It is also reported that some powerful political figures which are thought to be the protectors of Akonnor will ask government not to support the GFA’s decision to sack the coach, which could be the only savior of CK.
CK Akonnor was appointed head coach of the Black Stars in January 2020, replacing Kwesi Appiah.
Since CK’s appointment, the Black Stars have been involved in 10 games, winning 4 of those games, losing 4 and drawing 2.
