Lawyer Yaw Acheampong Boafo has been elected as the new President of the Ghana Bar Association at the Bar Conference of the Ghana Bar Association, held at Bolgatanga.
Yaw Boafo, with over twenty years of experience at the Bar, beat a challenge from Mrs. Efua Ghartey as legal practitioners in Ghana voted massively for Yaw as a successor to Lawyer Ato Forson. Yaw polled 605 Votes while his contestant had 540 votes in an election which was done virtually and in-person by qualified and registered members of the Ghana Bar Association. Yaw Boafo was previously the National Secretary of the Bar Association until this election and is credited with the technological/electronic transformation of the Bar in the last few years under his boss Ato Forson.
He is an experienced sports administrator and has been a 3-time Management member of Asante Kotoko. He has also been the chairman of the Ashanti Regional Football Disciplinary Committee for years as well as a leader of the Hockey Association and is a hockey and Tennis player as well.
The 50-year-old son of the former MP of Subin and Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs SK Boafo, Yaw heads the Kumasi-based Gye Nyame Chambers and is expected to lead the Ghana Bar with the other newly elected executives for the next three years.
He thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work hard to further improve what has been achieved already.
