Fans of Ashgantigold Sporting Club have been left heartbroken after Medeama’s Ebenezer Ackahbi climbed off the bench to score a late goal which propelled the Yellow and Mauves to a vital away victory over at the Len Clay Stadium in an epic week 11 tie of the Ghana Premier League on Monday.
Medeama announced their presence in the game and made their intentions clear as early as 5 minutes into the first half with an Ansu Kofi Patrick strike which was flagged offside.
The visitors kept the momentum, taking control of the first 10 minutes of the game. Former Asante Kotoko, Bechem United forward Ahmed Toure came close to finding the net at the 7th minute with a ferocious drive at goal, but his effort was denied by Ashgold goalkeeper Dennis Votere who managed to put the ball away for a corner kick.
The home side picked up the pieces, found their rhythm to threaten the defence of Medeama. A timely intervention by defender Vincent Atingah with a slide tackle stopped Ali Mohammed from finding the back of the net.
Right back Kwadwo Amoako initiated a dangerous attack from the flanks, sent in a beautiful cross but to no man’s land as the visitors were once again left off the hook. Following water breaks, the two sides failed to score as the first 45 minutes plus 2 minutes added time elapsed and the referee blew for half time break.
Both teams returned from the break with much determination to find the back of the net but not until the 90th minute. Medeama made substitution at the 62nd minute, replacing captain of the side Joseph Tetteh Zuta with eventual match winner, Ebenezer Ackahbi. Around the 86th minute, Kwesi Donsu and Ahmed Toure made way for King Archerson and Agyei Boakye to bring more energy into Medeama.
The efforts and substitutions paid of for Medeama when, on the 90th minute substitute Ebenezer Ackahbi scored to break the deadlock, just at the brink of full time to win the game for the Tarkwa based club.
The vital win has pushed Medeama SC to the 5th position on the league log whiles AshantiGold slips to the 14th position with 12 points.
