Asante Kotoko’s joy from the Asante derby win over Ashantigold on Sunday seems to have been cut short, following reports of fire outbreak at the club’s training grounds at Adako Jachie, a suburb of Kumasi.
Videos emerged on social media after the game against Ashantigold, showing people using sticks and buckets of water to put out flames on on a football pitch, reported to be one of the training pitches of Asante Kotoko.
The cause and source of the fire remains unclear, but fire seem to have gotten better part of the said pitch, looking at the dry nature of the grass due to the excessive sunshine as part of the harmattan.
From the circulating video, a male voice is heard speaking in Asante Twi, one of the local dialects, (probably a fan of Asante Kotoko or a good Samaritan) directing other persons in the video at the scene on how to put the fire out. According to the voice over from the video (which seems to have been taken by the one speaking in it), all attempts to reach the Ghana Fire Service to deploy fire fighters to the place proved futile, forcing the people around to improvise a means of curbing the situation.
Asante Kotoko is yet to comment on the circulating video, and on the story.
The Porcupine Warriors beat regional rivals Ashantigold SC 3-1 on Sunday at the Baba Yara sports stadium in the Ghana Premier League match week 12 fixture to stay top of the league table.
