Ghana Premier League side Elmina Sharks are close to announcing their former head coach Amissah Kobina as their new head coach for the ongoing 2021/2022 league season.
The former Bibiani Gold Stars coach is on the verge of completing a deal for his return to the Elmina based club following discussions between the parties which are at the concluding stages.
Contrary to reports in the local media claiming that Amissah has rejoined Sharks, ghanasportspage.com can reliably confirm that the deal is not done yet as both sides are in the final stages of the discussions. Talks between Amissah Kobina and the Elmina based club are in the advanced stage, with an agreement expected to be reached between the parties by Monday, January 17.
“It’s almost a done deal”, coach Amissah told ghanasportspage.com in an exclusive briefing. Amissah confirmed the deal and indicated that things are expected to settle by Monday.
“Well maybe things will be done on Monday, but we have advanced in discussions”, he confirmed.
Coach Amissah resigned from his position as head coach of Bibiani Gold stars, weeks after guiding the them to qualify for the club’s first ever appearance in the Ghanaian top flight league. On August 9, 2021, Gold Stars announced they have mutually parted ways with him. He is currently the coach of lower division side Samatex FC.
Should things go on as expected, coach Amissah will replace Mallam Yahaya at Elmina Sharks. The Sharks have lost all of their last 5 premier league matches, and are currently sitting 18th on the 18-team log waiting for miracle to save them from being relegated by the end of the season. Mallam Yahaya’s pending appointment which will mark his second stint with the club is expected to come with huge responsibilities, with the mandate of ensuring that the team ends the season in a respectable position on the league table.
