Ghana Premier side Legon Cities have swiftly responded to claims on social media that their newly adopted home grounds, the El-Wak stadium is unfit to host their premier League match week 18 fixture against Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday.
The Royals are amazed at the concerns being raised, and have assured fans that the club would take all necessary steps to ensure that all who will grace the match on Sunday will go back home safely.
According Legon Cities, the club’s attention has been drawn to pictures being circulated on social media, showing the back of the goal posts of the El-Wak stadium which, according to the club, has been closed to public access ever since the club migrated to the facility. They Royals insist that the stadium is fit for use and that their match against Accra Hearts of Oak would go ahead at the venue as scheduled.
“Our attention has been drawn to pictures cirulating on scial Media regarding the readiness of the El-Wak stadium to host our Premier League encounter against Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday, February 2022”, read a statement by Legon City on Tuesday.
According to the club, that aspect of the stadium which is being circulated has been closed to use for long, and the club will ensure nobody access that side on Sunday.
“That part of the stadium, specifically behind the goal posts, has been closed since we moved our home games to the El-Wak stadium to make room for refurbishment. This was part of the conditions stated in the approval of the facility by the Club Licensing Board and would only be operational when the refurbishment is complete”, the statement added.
