• Sulley Muntari, former Inter Millan and AC Millan star has lifted his first trophy with Ghanaian giants, Accra Hearts of Oak.
Glorious Accra Hearts of Oak are the champions of the 2022 GHALCA President’s Cup following Afriyie Barnieh and Patrick Razak’s unimaginable strike.
The ceremonial game was graced by His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and other high government officials alongside GFA boss and GHALCA President.
Asante Kotoko emerged winners in this game in 2019 and were aiming to defend their title against Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Both sides ended the first half with goalless but back from recess, Hearts of Oak drew first blood after having a good display with great chances with some coming from ex-Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari from a free-kick.
Hearts were climbing with Barnieh’s goal until Samuel Boateng came in as a substitute to equalize at the 72nd minute but the Porcupines could not hold on to the result.
Substitute, Patrick Razak stepped up to restore the lead for the Rainbows following a 1v1 situation with a through pass to drive away Ibrahim Danlad.
The victory today hands Hearts the first trophy of the season. However, they are one of the favorites to defend the MTN FA Cup.
Kotoko are also looking to win the GPL title after bagging 40points out of 18 games to sit on top of the league whiles the Phobians sits at the 7th position with 26 points.
