Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Sulley Muntari impressed with the current form of Asante Kotoko in the ongoing Ghana Premier League (GPL) season, but his ultimate aim remains to see the his club Accra Hearts of Oak pick up the pieces to catch up with the Porcupines at the top of the league log.
Hearts of Oak are currently trailing their arch-rivals Asante Kotoko by 12 points on the league log, and Sulley Muntari has made suggestions what coach Samuel Boadu’s side ought to do to gradually close the gap.
Muntari scored Hearts of Oak’s winner from the penalty spot on Wednesday against WAFA at the Accra sports stadium in the matchday 19 tie of the GPL. Speaking after the game on what he hope to do about the unsatisfactory form of Hearts of Oak which has led to Asante Kotoko leaving them far behind in the league, the former UEFA Champions League winner called for his side to focus on taking it game by game and stay focused.
“We are to concentrate game by game as we did today”, Muntari said, speaking to StarTimes after the win against WAFA.
“Now we have to go home and rest and then think about the next game that is ahead of us”, he added.
Responding the gap between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak on the league log currently, the former Inter Milan star advised, that Hearts of Oak must focus on themselves rather than on what their rivals or other teams do in the league.
“Kotoko is ahead but we need to look at what we do, not what they do with all due respect to them. They are playing, they are having a great season, we want to focus on game by game”, he advised.
Asante Kotoko currently lead the league log with 41 points, while defending champions Accra Hearts of Oak sit 5th on the log with 29 point. In the next fixtures, Hearts of Oak will travel to the Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa to face Aduana Stars while Asante Kotoko welcomes coach Michael Osei’s Bibiani Gold Stars to the Baba Yara sports stadium.
