The Cape Coast Sports Stadium has been rejected as a venue for Ghana and Nigeria World Cup qualifier play-offs first leg by the world’s football governing body, FIFA.
This is due to the bad state of the 15,000 capacity Sports Stadium after the 65th Independence Day Parade.
Ghana’s opponents, Nigeria will take the advantage to decide the venue for the first leg while Ghanaians are hoping to square off against the Super Eagles at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Meanwhile, FIFA will propose Benin or Morocco as the neutral venue for the upcoming decisive clash between the West African rivals.
Baba Yara Sports Stadium is Ghana’s only option after Cape Coast stadiums failed to meet FIFA’s standards.
As reported, CAF’s inspection team have been in Ghana to check the Cape Coast but the venue has been rejected due to the poor state of the pitch.
Visuals of a poor looking Cape Coast pitch prompted officials of Nigerian Football Federation to send a petition to FIFA and CAF to move the game away from the Central Region.
The NSA have tried their possible best to prepare the venue for the game but it seems there might not be enough time to change the face of the pitch.
Ghana will welcome the Super Eagles on Friday, March 25, 2022 before travelling to Abuja in four days time for the second-leg.
