Title holders, Hearts Of Oak fought to claim a 2-1 victory over Ashanti Gold in an epic encounter of the Ghana Premier Week 21.
Hearts hosted the Miners at the Accra Sports Stadium in the second leg between the two clubs. Ashantigold came into the game with an upper hand, having beaten the Rainbows 2-0 at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh is the hero of the day after hitting brace to give Hearts a valuable win following last week’s slim defeat to Aduana Stars.
The Rainbows opened the scoreline with a penalty at the 14th minute courtesy Afriyie Barnieh before Aminu Adams scored to level the game at the 24th minute.
The game ended in a stalemate after the first half but Afriyie Barnieh came back strongly into the second half to score a master-class goal outside the box to restore the lead for the home side during the 61st minute.
AshGold tried to cancel Barnieh’s second goal to with great chances but the Phobians defence were equally up to the task.
Hearts remains at the 6th position with 32 points behind Medeama SC.
Ashantigold sits at the 13th position with 25 points.
