Ghana lower tier (Division One League) side Samartex FC have leveled wild allegations against Mr Wilson Arthur, president of the division’s side Skyy FC as the force behind what they call a premeditated, planned and sponsored attack inflicted on the Samartex FC players and officials on Sunday, April 3 during their Division One League zone two match at the St. Marten’s Park at Daboase.
Pictures of FC Samartex players and club officials have been circulating on social media since the Sunday, showing wounds, bruises and damages caused to properties belonging to the Western Region’s Samreboi based club, Samartex, after home fans of Skyy FC are alleged to have assaulted them in the Division zone League match between Skyy FC and FC Samartex on Sunday, April 3, 2022.
In a drastic reaction to the incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Monday, announced Skyy FC with an indefinite ban from playing their home matches at the St Martins School park.
In the early hours of Monday, April 4, officials of Samartex FC organised a press conference to give an account on what actually transpired at the match venue on Sunday before, during and after the match, and have fingered certain personalities believed to have executed the primitive action. Samartex have firmly stated in a statement from the press conference, that Mr Wilson Arthur, who is the club president of the home team (Skyy FC) was actually the one who sponsored the attack.
“We at Samartex FC are aware that these attacks were premeditated, planned and sponsored by the president of the Skyy FC, Mr. Wilson Arthur, and co-executed [by] his fans”, Samartex alleged in the statement on Monday.
According to the club, the idea to physically assault Samartex FC players and Officials on the match day was consciously arranged and with execution strategies put in place at a meeting held at the St Martin’s Park by Skyy FC about two weeks ago, they executed it with all consciousness.
“This diabolic act to physically assault Samartex FC was hatched about two weeks ago, and a meeting scheduled for the 1st of April at the St Martin’s Park was to plan and strategise how to execute this barbaric act”, the statement further stated.
Samartex have maintained, that Mr Wilson was present at the match venue and everything happened right before his eyes, and cannot claim innocence. They have lodged official complaint at the Daboase police station, and have demanded that the police treat the matter as a ”criminal case”.
“Mr. Wilson Arthur was present, and saw all that happened”, the statement from Samartex continued. “We are calling on the Ghana Police to treat this case as a criminal case. The perpetrators are known, some of whom have been listed in the statement. If Mr Wilson Arthur claims he wants to assist in investigations, he knows all those who engaged in this barbaric act. He should produce them”, they maintained.
Mr Wilson Arthur also doubles as the Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Organising Committee.
