The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has mandated its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to make recommendations of who becomes the next Super Eagles head coach and backroom staff, as well as for the technical team of the other national teams, ghanasportspage.com can report.
Following Nigeria’s disastrous failure to secure qualification to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation held a crunch meeting on Tuesday, 5th April 2022 at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to deliberate on pressing issues in Nigeria Football, and the way forward for the future of the Super Eagles and other national teams of the country.
The Executive Committee made several resolutions which have since been published by the NFF.
Among some of the resolutions are issues regarding the fall outs from the Super Eagles’ disappointing miss on the ticket to Qatar, the death of Dr Joseph Kabungo, the appointed officer as the FIFA Doping Officer for the Nigeria/Ghana FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Playoff match in Abuja on 29th March 2022.
Another resolution by the Committee is the roadmap to the new elections into the NFF Board which is resolved to be designed at the Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the NFF pending a relaxation of the ex parte injunction suspending the Congress from meeting, which was served on the NFF from a Federal High Court in Bayelsa State to stop the meeting.
Key among the over eight (8) different resolutions made by the Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday however, was the appointment of a new technical crew for the Super Eagles, after the interim technical crew of the team, headed by interim Technical Adviser Augustine Eguavoen and comprised Chief Coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, Salisu Yusuf (2nd Assistant coach), Joseph Yobo as the (3rd Assistant), and Aloysius Agu (Goalkeepers’ Trainer) was disengaged [dissolved] by the NFF immediately after losing the World Cup ticket to Ghana after legged matches in the last play-offs.
The Executive Committee of the NFF, has, as a matter of urgency, mandated its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to recommend the Executive Committee coaching crews for the Super Eagles, the CHAN team, the U20 Boys otherwise known as the ‘Flying Eagles’ and some of the other national teams in the space of the next five (5) days.
“The Executive Committee mandated its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to, within the next 5 days, make recommendations to the Executive Committee on coaching crews for the Super Eagles, the CHAN team, the U20 Boys (Flying Eagles) and the U17 Boys (Golden Eaglets) ahead of upcoming assignments”, the NFF announced in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement published by the NFF following the crunch meeting on Tuesday, the timeline give the Technical and Development Sub-Committee, though short, is to ensure that things are put in order to allow the various national teams prepare for upcoming assignments.
“This is to ensure preparations for the next qualifying tournaments and championships commence in earnest”, the statement added.
The qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cote D’Ivoire will soon begin, and the NFF is acting fast so as to reconstitute the technical crew of the national teams, especially the Super Eagles.
