The Ghana Football Association has confirmed the roadmap of the 2021/22 MTN sponsored FA Cup competition from the quarter final stage through to the grande finale, and the permutations imply a likely semi final clash between holders Accra Hearts of Oak and premier league fellows, Dreams FC.
Matches for the quarter final stage are scheduled for next week, Wednesday 13 April and, Thursday 14 April, 2022. Following the quarter final draw held last Tuesday, champions Accra Hearts of Oak have been drawn against second tier side Skyy FC, with the Phobians as the away side.
Skyy FC have been banned from playing their home matches at their favourite home grounds, the St Martin’s School Park at Daboase in the Western Region, and for that matter may have to host the Phobians at the Sekondi Sports stadium at Essipon, Takoradi, or in a worst case scenario, would have to be moved to the Cape Coast sports stadium for the crucial game.
In that same zone, premier league side Dreams FC will face lower tier side Kotoku Royals FC at the Theatre of Dreams, Dawu. Embracing the existence of several upsets usually caused in this competition by the lower division clubs, it is however an undeniable fact that both Hearts of Oak and Dreams FC are favourites on paper to advance to the semi finals.
Being the same zone, the winner between Skyy FC and Accra Hearts of Oak will face the winner of the match between Dreams FC and Kotoku Royals FC, an indication that a Hearts of Oak vs Dreams FC semi final clash is lurking.
In the other zone, Bechem United FC hosts Tamale City FC while Aduana Stars welcome King Faisal in the quarter final fixtures. The winners from these two fixtures will battle each other in the semi final.
Confirming the dates for the quarter final and the semi final matches, the GFA announced on Thursday, that “the quarterfinals round of matches are scheduled to be played on April 13-14, 2022 with the semifinal also set for May 12-16, 2022”.
Below is the diagrammatically illustrated route to the final as released by the GFA:
