Former FC Basel star Samuel Inkoom is set for a sensational debut for Accra Hearts of Oak against his former club Asante Kotoko, after he received the necessary documentation clearance to play on Friday.
Inkoom last played for Georgian side FC Torpedo Kutaisi, where he finished off his contract recently and needed to receive his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) to enable him play. We can however report, that the ITC of Inkoom has now arrived, giving him the clearance to play for Accra Hearts of Oak after signing a one year deal with the Phobians on Friday, April 8, 2022.
This would be a return to the domestic league for Samuel Inkoom, having featured already for Asante Kotoko from 2007 to 2009. The 32-yearld defender won the Ghana Premier League title with Asante Kotoko in the 2007-2008 season before his departure to Switzerland, where he made impact with FC Basel between 2009 and 2011. Inkoom played in the UEFA Champions League with Basel in the 2010-2011 season, where they faced Bayern Munich, AS Roma and Romanian side CFR Cluj where they finished third in the group and dropped into the Europa League.
Inkoom was a key member of the FC Basel team in the 2010/2011 Europa League that made it into the Round of 32 stage where they exited with a 4-3 defeat to FC Spartak Moscow.
The former Sekondi Hasaacas defender has played at highest level of football both at club level and international level and is with loads of experience to offer in his return to the domestic league. Inkoom, at club level, has played in countries like Switzerland, Ukraine, America, Turkey Portugal and to mention few. On international level in his Ghana career, Inkoom won the FIFA U20 World Cup with the Black Satellites in 2009, reached the finals of the AFCON with the Black Stars in Angola 2010, and ultimately helped Ghana to a first ever quarter final finish at the World Cup in 2010.
He is expected to make his debut for Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday against Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League week 24 match at the Baba Yara sports stadium.
It must be noted however, that Inkoom’s ITC arrived late on Friday after the office of the GFA had closed, according to our gatherings, and it’s unclear whether or not he is all cleared by the GFA to make his Hearts of Oak debut against Asante Kotoko tomorrow. We gather that Inkoom will travel with the Hearts of Oak team to Kumasi, nonetheless.
