Ashanti Gold Sporting Club made it rain goals at the Obuasi Len Clay sports stadium on Sunday afternoon by humiliating Berekum Chelsea to a 5-1 defeat in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) match week 27 of the ongoing 2021/22 league campaign.
The Miners have now moved to the 10th place with 38 points in their bag, hoping to at least achieve a top 4 finished with the 7 matches left to call it a day on the season.
Former Bechem United winger Yaw Annor shot the home side into the lead with the clock reading just 11 minutes, but the celebrations where cut short when Owusu Osei leveled with a superb finish 12 minutes later for the visiting Blues outfit.
Ashanti Gold kept the momentum with some pressing football in search for opportunity to restore their lead, and their effort surely paid off on the brink of the half time mark. Eric Esso connected himself to a great back pass from Stephen Nyarko and make no mistake when he struck home to put the Miners in the lead for the second time, finishing the first half with the scoreline at 2-1 for the home side.
In form Yaw Annor pounced again in the second half, proving too hot to handle as he score three more goals in the 74′, 85 and 87th minutes to complete a personal super hat-trick. The game ended 5-1 for the Obuasi based side who take home all three points, while the Birbires return to Berekum empty handed.
The humiliating defeat means Berekum Chelsea have dropped to the 8th position and now with 39 points. They face Accra Great Olympics in week 28 next weekend and must stretch for a win in that encounter to keep themselves safe above the drop zone.
