Accra Lions once again showed a tenacity as they recorded a well deserved 2-0 win over Berekum Chelsea to keep their GPL status alive in Accra.
The GPL debutants opened week 32 of the league as they welcomed the 2010/11 champions at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In a game officiated by an experienced referee Rustum Sernogbe, the Lions ended up with ten men following Jacob Mensah’s bad tackle on his opponent.
The Ghana Premier League first timers who were lacking an experience in the first round after they earned promotion from Zone 3 of the Division One League now looks fully improved and a discipline side under the hands of former Ghana star Ibrahim Tanko.
Their home record in the league guided them today to beat the visitors with a perfect 2-0 scoreline but Chelsea came into the game holding the better head to head record as they beat the Lions 3-1 in the round.
Accra Lions extended their unbeaten run to five matches with this victory following a brilliant header in the first half from Remember Boateng and a stunning strike from Hagan Frimpong in the second half to seal their stay in the top-flight league for another season with two games to wrap up the season.
They sit at the tenth position with 40 points whiles Chelsea drops to the fifth position with 46 points.
