The Ghana Football Association on Tuesday, 5th July 2022 announced on Twitter that, Athletic Bilbao Inaki Williams has finally switched nationality to play for Ghana ahead of the World Cup later this year.
Inaki was Born in Bilbao, Spain to Ghanaian parents, Inaki expressed his reservations about switching nationalities for Ghana in an interview last year, saying, “My parents are from Accra, and I really enjoy going.
But I wasn’t born or raised there, my culture is here, and there are players who would mean more.”
“I don’t think it would be right to take the place of someone who really deserves to go and feels Ghana 100%,” he added.
Inaki has played over 300 games for the La Liga outfit, Athletic Bilbao and only made one appearance for Spain national team. Coming in as a substitute for Marcos Asensio.
With Ghana looking to reinforce their squad going into the World Cup later this year in Qatar, Inaki has join the list of foreign players switching nationality.
Ghana has been drawn along side Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in Group H of the World Cup.
