Bechem United completed a stunning first-half to inflict Hearts of Oak’s second defeat of the season with a deserved 2-1 victory in the Premier League.
Coach Slavko Matic was taking charge of his eighth Premier League game but Cephas Mantey and Hafiz Konkoni condemned his perfect run as he suffered first defeat.
Hearts of Oak had won their last two games, 1-0 against Nsoatreman in the Ghanaian topflight and a 3-1 comeback win in the MTN FA Cup against Uncle T United.
But the Hunters redeemed themselves from their 2-1 defeat in last season’s FA Cup final to stun the Phobians.
Hearts eventually reduced the arrears in the 90th minutes courtesy of Robert Addo Sowah, but could not rescue a draw.
Two red cards were recorded in today’s clash. Hearts of Oak’s Enoch Asubonteng received two yellow cards in the 85th minute before Bechem United’s Joseph Kinful was given a straight red card during the additional minutes in the second half.
The result sees Bechem United move up to 4th position while Slavko Matic’s men drop to 5th, leaving them four points adrift of leaders Aduana Stars after week 10.
Next up, Hearts of Oak will aim to bounce back when they host Tamale City on Saturday while Bechem United host King Faisal.
