Accra Hearts of Oak failed to score in Kumasi as a 0-0 draw against King Faisal stopped them from going two points clear ahead of their rivals, Asante Kotoko in the Premier League on Thursday.
The Rainbow side have now drawn five times in the ongoing campaign, threatening their chances of winning the domestic title.
Hearts, missing some key players, created several chances, but lacked a cutting edge in a dour encounter.
The Phobians were lively on the break and should have led through a 15th-minute golden opportunity for Benjamin Yorke.
Both sides kept on firing blanks but King Faisal upped their tempo in search of a late winner. There were some important stops by Zakaria Yakubu to deny Alhaji Grusah’s side.
The ambitious approach of both teams threatened to concoct an intriguing affair. From the opening whistle, King Faisal pressed aggressively but failed to convert their chances.
Upon reflection, however, the draw was probably the fair result, with both sides having significant chances in either half, but neither being able to convert.
King Faisal are okay with the result – a point only lifting them from the relegation zone to 15th place.
Hearts of Oak trail leaders Aduana Stars by four points following the frustrating midweek draw against the Inshallah Boys.
