Businessman and owner of Kenpong Football Academy Kennedy Somua Agyapong has once again scattered the technical team of the club.
With the second round of the Access Bank Division One league which just started at the weekend, the club has seen the departure of experienced Frimpong Manso, with his position as a head coach being filled by Moses Coffie, who was with Berekum Chelsea last season.
Within two years of its formation, Kenpong Academy then a second-division team based in the Central region qualified for the National Division One league after clinching the sole ticket following intensive zonal and middle league tournaments.
The owner, affectionately known as Kenpong Capucino then replaced almost the entire technical set up which included experienced Oti Akenten, Kwesi Appiah, Ebenezer Sefah, Frederick Gidiglo, Illiasu Alhassan, Olembe, Sammy Adjei, Ato Bortsie among others. Previous casualties included Edward Ansah, Emmanuel Ampiah, and Emmanuel Armah Senegal, who just like Frimpong Manso later returned to the club, until recently.
The latest decision comes after the bankroller Mr Kennedy Agyapong held a meeting to inform the technical team of the club of his decision to dissolve it.
Kenpong at the meeting failed to actually state the reasons for dissolving the technical team but said he was not happy and has therefore taken the decision to axe Head Coach Frimpong Manso, and also reconstitute the technical team, which is already depleted as members including medical team members have been sacked. Goalkeeper’s trainer Sammy Adjei is reported to have earlier left the club, unhappy about how the team is being managed, various sources hinted ghanasportspage.com.
Meanwhile, ghanasportspage.com has spoken to the Asante Kotoko legend Frimpong Manso who has explained his latest departure from Kenpong Academy. According to the technical head Frimpong Manso, the decision to dissolve the club’s technical team is not a surprise to him.
“I have done the best that I can help the team grow and gain the needed foundation in football. I feel proud to lead the team in the Division One League for the first time” he said.
“The team doesn’t have home grounds and to have a team of young players without experience playing at the highest level with such results, I think the technical team did a yeoman’s job.
“Our performance would have been different if we had a home grounds like others” he continued. Since its formation, the club has used various venues at Winneba Sports College Park, Ajumako Essesan Park, WAFA Academy Park at Gomoa Fetteh, and Swedru Stadium as venues at various times, with the inconsistency and travelling around affecting the players in matches sometimes”, he explained
” The decision to dissolve the technical team is pathetic and anyone with football knowledge wouldn’t take such a decision. We have been able to stabilize the team and therefore we should be appreciated for that” he told the leading sports site, ghanasportspage.com
“We won three away matches, it’s hard to win in some centers but we won against Abusua Dwarfs, Elmina Sharks and Asokwa Deportivo in Kumasi. So if we have been able to do all these for the club’s progress and instead of appreciating us but if you (Kennedy Agyapong) think it’s non-performance then it’s up to you. Your conscience will judge you”, he said.
Kenpong Academy in the ongoing Division One league sits at mid-table on the log in the Division One Zone 2 league competition. There seems to be discontentment in the team as some of the players keep leaving the team for unexplained reasons, with few players complaining about the numerous changes in the technical team and lack of unity and direction, which is affecting the club.
Kenpong Football Academy is a subsidiary of the Kenpong Group of Companies comprising Kenpong Travel and Tours, Ice Gold natural mineral water, Kenpong Construction (roads, buildings), and many other companies.
