Former Asante Kotoko defender, Awal Mohammed has expressed disappointment in his former club for their unfair treatment to Felix Annan.
The former WAFA goalkeeper lost his spot to Kwame Baah after he took a break in the 2019/20 season to marry his long-term girlfriend.
Annan, who was then the captain of the Kumasi-based side, was consistently left on the bench by coach Maxwell Konadu, who preferred Kwame Baah between the sticks.
Having failed to reclaim his position, the goalkeeper decided to part ways with the club in 2021 for Maryland Bobcats in America.
His problems with the Porcupine Warriors also affected him in the national team. He was the only local player to have been included in Ghana’s squad for the 2019 AFCON but he was dropped after losing his position to Kwame Baah.
However, Awal, who won the President’s Cup and the MTN FA Cup in 2017 blamed the management and the technical team for the decision to demote the goalkeeper after his wedding.
According to him, Felix Annan is a good goalkeeper but the club didn’t support him.
“Marriage is good and I don’t know the reason why this happened to Annan. I was very disappointed in some people because of what happened to Felix Anan at that time but I don’t want to mention any names. I was very disappointed,” Awal told Ghanasportspage.com.
“The guy was at his peak at that time. He was with the national team but the club didn’t support him. I was disappointed in some people but you can’t do anything. That’s how life is. He was a small boy during our time. He loves to learn but they didn’t support him.
“He is a good goalkeeper but what they did killed his spirit. You can see it from that time till now,” he concluded.
