We are saddened to announce the passing of Ghana and Accra Hearts of Oak legend Anas Seidu.
Anas Seidu, popularly known as ‘Thunderman’ was confirmed dead on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at his family house in Accra New Town.
Anas, who is regarded as one of the best forwards in the history of Ghana football in his hay days played for Hearts of Oak and was a member of the iconic ‘Fearsome Five’ which featured; Mohammed Polo, Mama Bomber Acquah, Peter ‘best man’ Lamptey and Robert Hammond.
The ‘Fearsome Five’ were an intimidating quintet filled with incredibly talented players who formed the spine of Hearts of Oak and were a nightmare to play against in the 1970s.
He bagged numerous laurels with Hearts of Oak, notably the 1977 CAF Champions League, which was the club’s first ever Champions League title.
Thunderman represented Ghana at multiple African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and was a member of the team that won Ghana’s last AFCON trophy in 1978.
Per the Islamic convention, Anas Seidu will be laid to rest today at the Awudome Cemetery at 2:00pm.
