Head coach of Central African Republic (CAR) Raoul Savoy has granted an exclusive interview with Ghana’s leading sports website Ghanasportspage.com ahead of the crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Ghana on Thursday.
The CAR are already in the country and Savoy has answered questions from the editorial team of Ghanasportspage.com
On Thursday’s match
“Of course, Ghana is playing at home and they are the favourites. It is the final game for both teams. They are the biggest team in the group and it will be very tough but we are coming to Ghana to play our game and try our best to qualify.
“It is a final and in finals, the small one can surprise the big one. It’s clear that it is a final and both teams will be ready to focus on the goa. The main goal is to qualify for the next AFCON
On whether Ghana’s big-name players put fear in them
“No. We don’t fear Ghana but we have to respect all the players, this country Ghana and of course the Black Stars. It is not a question of fear but a question of respect “
On His Two Teams To Qualify
“For me, it will be nice if we qualify alongside Ghana and we can celebrate at the end of the game. It is a question of mathematics; if we beat Ghana and Angola lose then it will be okay for us, if we beat Ghana and Angola draw it will be okay too”
“As I said we respect all the teams. The game against Ghana is a final and in finals, you never know what exactly will happen. For us we are going with full respect, We know that we are not favourites in this game, and all the people in the world are thinking that this will be easy for the Black Stars. But we are going to be more ready for this game and see what will happen”
On Ghana coach Chris Hughton
“Every game is a story and exactly what I am thinking is me and my players and nothing more”
Ghana leads Group E with 9 points, Angola are second with 8 points whilst CAR come third with 7 points. The Black Stars must win the Match-Day Six game in order to comfortably qualify for the AFCON finals.
