Astute journalist, Kwabena Yeboah has opined that Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey deserves a place in the Black stars squad for the 2023 AFCON.
The Sports Writer’s Association of Ghana (SWAG) president argues that Lamptey is better than some midfielders at the Black Stars currently and that he is the best player in the League.
Hence, omitting the deputy Kotoko skipper in the soon to be named AFCON squad would not speak well of the GPL.
“We cannot go to Cote divoire leaving the Premier League’s best midfielder behind.
It would be an indictment on our league.
Besides, Lamptey is better than some of the midfielders in the team. It shouldn’t be a crime for one to play in Ghana.”
There has been calls for Richmond Lamptey to be included in the AFCON squad following his phenomenal performance this season.
The former WAFA midfielder top it off with a man-of-the-match display in the Super Clash on Sunday, December 10, 2023 where he created two goals with some sublime passes to ensure that Kotoko beat Hearts of Oak.
The Black Stars’ squad for the AFCON is expected to be named in December with tournament set to start in January 2024 in Ivory Coast.
