Former Ghanaian international, Samuel Inkoom has urged Asante Kotoko players to lift up their performance in the ongoing campaign.

Inkoom’s message follows the team’s recent slump of his former club in the Ghana Premier League, with seven consecutive matches without a win.

The club’s winless run has left them now out of contention for the league title and instead edging closer to the relegation zone, with only three points separating them from the bottom three.

Speaking about the team’s abysmal performance, the former U-20 World Cup called on the Porcupine Warriors to lift themselves up in order to redeem the image of the club.

“I don’t think Kotoko will go relegation. Truth to be told, our two top clubs Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are not performing but they cannot go down. For what? Although they are not doing well but it happens in football. I want to attack the players and leave the technical side.

“Why do you sign a contract as a player? You signed it because you want to play for club and you have clauses in the contract which comes with bonuses and others. Don’t expect the coach to tell you to perform, he stated in an interview with Atinka TV.

He continued: “You will never play if you are not able to perform during our time with Coach Bashiru Hayford. You have to lift up your performance to help the club because you also wants to become a professional player and travel.

“I will not blame them or identify them to be the problem but is better they change how they think towards themselves. You don’t play for the coach or Kotoko. Your are playing for yourself and it is your dream to play to some level. You have a lot of responsibilities. I won’t say the coach is extraordinary but everybody make mistakes. I want to educate the players about the team they are playing. The club is the seat of Otumfour.

“I will just advise them to come together ahead of their subsequent games and just hope that they will not lose again.”
