His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the owner and life patron of Asante Kotoko, has shed light on his decision to retain control of the club’s management, citing financial obligations left behind by previous administrations.
During a meeting with players, coaching staff, and the interim management committee of the club on Thursday, April 18, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II disclosed that he has spent GHS5 million to settle some of the club’s outstanding debts.
“I spent GHS5 million to clear some of the debt left by past management. This is the reason I don’t want to hand over my team to any individual at the moment,” he explained.
Concerned about the financial stability of the club, Otumfuo emphasized his commitment to ensuring its solvency and sustainability.
“I will personally call the GFA to dissolve Kotoko before you take the club to relegation,” he affirmed.
In the midst of these financial challenges, Otumfuo has urged Asante Kotoko to swiftly reverse their poor form, marked by seven games without a win. With an upcoming Ghana Premier League fixture against Samartex FC this weekend, he has called on the team to secure victory at the end of the contest.
