Accra Lions etched their names in the annals of Ghanaian football history with a momentous 1-0 triumph over traditional powerhouse Hearts of Oak on matchday 28 of the Ghana Premier League.

Ibrahim Issah’s decisive second-half strike proved to be the difference maker as Lions extended their impressive run in the Ghanaian topflight.

The hosts started brightly, with Linda Mtage and Salim Adams testing the Phobians’ defense early on. Adams came close to breaking the deadlock with a powerful freekick, only to be denied by a solid save from Accra Lions’ goalkeeper.

Despite the initial pressure from Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions seized control of the game, launching a series of attacks, with Dominic Amponsah nearly finding the net after a swift move from the left flank.

As halftime approached, Lions felt aggrieved as they were denied a penalty shout when Daniel Awuni’s cross struck a Hearts of Oak defender’s hand in the box.

After the interval, Blessing Asuman had a golden opportunity to put Lions ahead but was thwarted by a resilient Hearts of Oak defense.

The visitors started the second half on the front foot, with Amponsah once again coming close to breaking the deadlock. However, it was Accra Lions who drew first blood through a swift counterattack, with Awuni setting up Yahaya Mohammed, who teed up Issa for the crucial opener.

Yahaya had a chance to double the lead but narrowly missed the target with a chip over the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper.

Hearts of Oak pressed for a late equalizer, with Hamza Issah and Dennis Korsah going close, but it was too little, too late as Accra Lions held on for a historic victory.
