AshantiGold Football Club has issued a statement disclosing ongoing discussions with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in their bid to reclaim their footballing stature.
The club’s tumultuous journey began with a suspension a year ago, attributed to their association with banned officials, notably President Kwaku Frimpong and Vice President Emmanuel Frimpong, implicated in match manipulation.
This led to the club’s relegation to the Division Two League and the forfeiture of all membership privileges, including participation in any football competitions.
Despite their illustrious history as Ghana’s third most successful club, boasting multiple league titles and continental achievements, AshantiGold faces an uncertain future.
In their statement, the club emphasizes their dialogue with the GFA, expressing hope for a return to competitive action in the 2024/25 season.
“For the past few months, we are in constant communication with the GFA to assist us in the pursuit to regain our footballing status. We therefore entreat all our loyal supporters to be patient and optimistic about our comeback to competitiveness in the 2024/25 season,” the statement read.
However, potential reinstatement could entail restarting from Division Two, following the match-fixing scandal involving Inter Allies.
While Inter Allies accepted their fate gracefully, AshantiGold’s contestation of the ruling has resulted in legal battles and prolonged suspension, underscoring the club’s determination to overcome adversity and reclaim their place in Ghanaian football.
