Head coach of Dreams Football Club, Abdul Karim Zito has stated that his side played under protest during their 8-1 victory over relegated Real Tamale United (RTU) on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
It is alleged that RTU intentionally deceived the match officials during the said game by using unregistered players to impersonate officially registered players of their club, which constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute.”
The makeshift squad’s inexperience was evident, leading to the heavy loss. Despite taking an early lead in the fourth minute, RTU was quickly overwhelmed.
Dreams FC’s Agyenim Boateng Mensah equalized and went on to score five goals. Benjamin Bature added two more goals, and Dede Ishmael completed the scoring spree.
Adding to the controversy, the player credited with RTU’s only goal, Lord Adabo, did not even travel to Dawu.
“Based on the information we had before the game that they were going to play with young players (unregistered players), I instructed my team manager to inspect them to provide anything they ought to have produced and after they failed to produce them I ensured that we played the game under protest. We made a protest on that before the game – Coach of Dreams FC, Karim Zito told Kessben Sports.
Meanwhile, RTU have been charged by the Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee and have until Friday to respond to the charges.
