Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has revealed that the club will be making a concerted effort to sign top-tier players from the Premier League, following the departure of 18 players in a matter of hours.
The Porcupine Warriors have been busy clearing out their squad, with a significant number of players released or transferred out of the club, and Ogum believes this is an opportunity to rebuild and bring in fresh talent to compete with the best in Ghanaian football.
In a recent interview, Ogum was clear about the type of players Kotoko are looking to sign for the new season.
“We need to actually go out there as early as possible to make sure that the signings that we want or the players that we want to sign, we get them,” he said.
“This time, not players from lower divisions, but players who have seen it in the Premier League. So these are basically some of the things that we need to also do.”
Kotoko finished the previous season in sixth place with 49 points, 12 behind champions Samartex.
The club’s aim is to improve on that performance and Ogum believes that signing Premier League-ready players will be key to achieving this goal.
The coach’s statement suggests that Kotoko are willing to invest in their squad and spend money to bring in top-quality players who can help them compete with the best teams in Ghanaian football.
