Ghana’s top athletes, including African Champions Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah and Cadman Evans Yamoah, have arrived in Douala, Cameroon, for the 2024 Africa Athletics Championship. The team, led by Coach Robert Dwumfuor and Georgina Sowah , is determined to make a statement at the championships, which kick off on June 21.
As they settled into their hotel in Douala, the athletes were filled with excitement and anticipation. “We’ve been training hard for months, and we’re ready to take on the best in Africa,” said Haluti Hor, who will be competing in the women’s 100m and 4 x100m relay events.
Edwin Gadayi, who will be competing in the men’s 100m and 4x100m relay, echoed Haluti’s sentiments. “We have a strong team, and we’re all focused on bringing home medals and possibly secure more Paris 2024 Olympic qualification.”
The team also includes other top athletes like William Amponsah, who will compete in the men’s 10,000m and homebase sprint Queen Mary Boakye, who will compete in the women’s 100m and the relay.
As they prepare to face off against the best athletes from across Africa, the Ghanaian team is confident that they have what it takes to make their mark on the championships.
“We’re not just here to participate, we’re here to win,” said Charles Osei Asibey, Vice President of Ghana Athletics. “We’ve got a talented team, and we’re going to give it our all.”
The Africa Athletics Championship will run from June 21 to 26, and will feature top athletes from across the continent competing in various events. Ghana is hoping to improve on their performance at the last championships, where they won a total of five medals.
With their talent, determination, and team spirit, Ghana’s top stars are ready to shine in Cameroon and make their country proud.
