Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Michael Akuffu has advised players of the current generation to invest in their future.
The 36-year-old said players must have an eye on life after football and, therefore, urged them to plan their lives accordingly now that they are earning some good money.
Upon retiring due to persistent injuries, Akuffu former captain of Kotoko ventured into coaching.
Speaking to Ghanasportspage.com in an interview, reacted sadly to the current situation of former Berekum Chelsea midfielder, Eric Agyemang who’s now struggling to make ends meet and housed his current predicament to advise young players to invest in their future, while revealing the investment he made from playing football.
“I watched a video of Eric Agyemang, formerly of Berekum Chelsea and I cried, where he would lay his head is even a problem now. It was sad.
“I didn’t get to where I wanted to go in football because of injuries but certain things that you have do for yourself, you got to do it because personally, where I am coming from, I know how life is so I said to myself that, I have to build a house from football, no matter what and God being so good, I don’t rent, I have my own house that I live in…this is what I look at and compare it to my senior (Eric Agyemang), I become sad but it’s not the end of life for him, we pray God comes through for him and he’d get back to his feet.”
“He should also try to venture into coaching because he’s a very intelligent guy, when you look at him in his prime times and today, it’s not easy but it’s part of life. He should get close to some of the coaches and start learning from the basic of coaching and register for a certificate program”, he told Ghanasportspage.com.
