Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has started training ahead of their epic clash against rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on Friday.
The Porcupines began their training on Friday, 28th June 2024, at their usual training pitch with 10 players, two goalkeepers, and eight players. Since then, the same players have been attending training as they will have their 4th day training session today.
The Kumasi Giants have sacked a 21-man squad after the 2023/24 season and currently have only 12 players remaining. According to ghanasportspage.com, Nurudeen Mohammed has not reported due to slight injury, and the reason for Sheriff Mohammed not reported at camp remains unknown.
The former PAC academy goalie Fatao Seidu has rejoined the club after a season long loan from future star and has been training with the team with Frederick Asare.
Emmanuel Kotei, Justice Blay, Michael Kyei Dwamena, Peter Amidu Acquah, Andrews Ntim Manu, Baba Yahaya, Bernard Somuah and Prince Adesa are currently training with the Porcupines.
Asante Kotoko has so far released 21 players, including Kalo Ouattara, Nicholas Osei Bonsu, Isaac Oppong, Danlad Ibrahim, Dwamena Rocky, among others.
The recent roster overhaul was a response to Kotoko’s disappointing sixth-place finish in the Ghana Premier League, where they fell short of claiming the 2023/24 title and ended the season without silverware.
Hearts of Oak will host Asante Kotoko on Friday, 5th July 2024, at 18:00GMT to challenge the Democracy Cup. The winner will secure a visa to play against DC United in the USA
