Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Asibey has expressed strong confidence in his team’s chances of defeating Asante Kotoko in the upcoming Democracy Cup on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The much-anticipated game will kick off at 6pm and marks 30 years of democratic practice in Ghana. Asibey believes that Hearts of Oak are well-prepared to take down their arch-rivals and lift the trophy.
“There is no such thing as a friendly match between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko. It’s a Cup game between two fierce rivals, and there will definitely be tension. Both teams are preparing to win the game on Wednesday. We’re not taking it lightly,” Asibey said in an interview with Kessben FM.
When asked if Hearts of Oak are going to win the trophy, he replied confidently, “For sure. We’re preparing well for the game. We’re looking at winning the game.”
Asante Kotoko had a strong run against Hearts of Oak in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League campaign, recording back-to-back wins over their opponents. However, Asibey is confident that Hearts of Oak can bounce back and emerge victorious in the Democracy Cup.
Before the game, parliamentarians and former Black Stars players will take part in a friendly match at the same venue to entertain fans.
