Former Asante Kotoko striker, Eric Kwabena Bekoe says the local players are not ready to play for the senior national soccer, the Black Stars due to their poor performance in the Ghana Premier League.
There have been calls for the Ghana Football Association and the technical team to balance the national team with both foreign and local players.
However, the former GPL winner believes that home-based players must work twice as hard as their European counterparts to be considered good enough to be in the Black Stars.
“They are not there. We are all watching the league. The players that were called by Otto Addo for our last two games are playing regular football, week in and week out for their clubs. Check our last games which Jordan scored and check the performance. The local players haven’t proved to be there but they hate the truth. They are not there yet,” Bekoe told Mothers FM.
Eric Bekoe won the 2007/08 Ghana Premier League with Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, bagging 17 goals in 23 games.
He also made 12 appearances for Ghana which includes the youth team.
