Asante Kotoko’s owner and life financer, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is reportedly set to name a new Board of Directors before the start of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, according to Nhyira FM.
The development comes after the dissolution of the Nana Yaw Amponsah-led management and Dr Kwame Kyei-led Board of Directors at the end of the 2022/23 season.
In their place, an Interim Management Committee (IMC) was formed, comprising former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah, Prosper Ogum Narteh (who also serves as the head coach of the team), Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi (Administrative Manager), and Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah.
Under the IMC’s guidance, Asante Kotoko finished the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League campaign in sixth position with 49 points.
However, the Club Licensing Committee has ruled that an Interim Committee can not run a club for more than a season, necessitating the appointment of a new Board of Directors.
The new board will consist of no more than six members, with the Executive Board Chairman serving as the head of the Management Team, which is yet to be named.
The report adds that the new board will be responsible for overseeing the team’s affairs and making key decisions.
Asante Kotoko is set to kick off their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign on September 6 with an away game against Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale.
