Former Asante Kotoko winger Francis Akwafo has urged the club’s supporters to temper their expectations as the team gears up for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.
After finishing sixth in the previous season, Kotoko has undergone a major overhaul, releasing over 20 players and signing twelve new recruits. Despite a confidence-boosting 2-1 victory over Hearts of Oak in the Democracy Cup, Akwafo believes managing expectations is crucial.
“We shouldn’t expect to win the Ghana Premier League immediately. Fans should lower their expectations for the new season. The players will perform better if there’s less pressure on them. It’s challenging to let go of over 18 players and still clinch the league title,” Akwafo remarked.
Currently, Asante Kotoko is in Cape Coast, finalizing their preparations for the new season. They will open their campaign against Karela United when the Ghana Premier League kicks off next month.
