Ghana Football Association Executive Council (EXCO) member and Berekum Chelsea Director, Nana Oduro Sarfo, has stirred controversy by downplaying the status of Asante Kotoko, one of Ghana’s most successful football clubs.
Speaking on Oyerepa FM in Kumasi, Sarfo boldly compared Kotoko to Young Apostles, a recently promoted side in the Ghana Premier League, suggesting that the club’s reputation is overly inflated.”What’s so special about Kotoko?
They are just like Young Apostles, so stop this hype you’re giving to them. You people always give their supporters false hopes,” Sarfo remarked, criticizing the constant attention and high expectations placed on the Porcupine Warriors.
His comments have sparked reactions from both Kotoko fans and football analysts, with many questioning his remarks given Kotoko’s illustrious history in Ghanaian football, including their numerous league titles and continental achievements.
Asante Kotoko’s current Ghana Premier League campaign has seen a mixed start, with a win and a draw in their opening two matches. The team will face Berekum Chelsea this weekend at the Golden City Park, a game that now carries added intensity following Sarfo’s remarks.
The upcoming fixture could serve as a proving ground for Kotoko to respond to the criticism and reaffirm their stature in Ghanaian football.
