Former Ghanaian international, Bright Addae on Wednesday recounted for the first time how he felt after missing a penalty during the 2009 U-20 World Cup final game against Brazil.
Addae was a member of the team that defeated South American side in Egypt to win the ultimate for the first time. During the penalty shootout, the former former Palmer player and Jonathan Mensah were the two Ghanaian players to miss their kicks.
But goalkeeper Daniel Agyei delivered an amazing performance to help Ghana make history.
With Ghana reduced to 10 men early in the match, the victory marked a significant milestone for African football, as it was the first time an African nation had won the prestigious tournament.
Reflecting on his kick after 15 years during an interview with Accra-based Mothers FM, Addae said, “The feeling was very bad because Bright Addae was an unknown player at that time. It was a sad story to miss a penalty whilst representing Ghana. I taught about my family first after that because I know what Ghanaians can to do.
“I knew that it was going to be tough but we will win. I felt so bad but God knows how to bless everyone and I see it as a blessing from God because it lifted my name,” he stated.
