Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Francis Jojo Bossman has revealed that he was the one who gave Prince Tagoe the nickname “Prince of Goals” during his early struggles at the club.
Speaking with Ghana Sports Page on Tagoe’s journey, Bossman recounted how he constantly encouraged the former Hoffenheim striker, who had a challenging start at Hearts of Oak.
He asserted that the confidence he instilled in Prince Tagoe inspired the latter to win the goal king at the end of the campaign.
“I gave him the name Prince of Goals,” Bossman stated. “He was struggling when he joined Hearts of Oak, and I kept encouraging him. In training, I fed him more balls than any player. He missed some and scored some. So I gave him the name Prince of Goals, and it was through that he won the goal king,” he said during the interview with Sir Martin on ghanasportspage.com.
Tagoe went on to become the Ghana Premier League’s top scorer in the 2004/2005 season, solidifying his status as one of the best forwards in the league’s history.
Bossman further praised some of Ghana’s greatest strikers, adding, “Prince Tagoe, Ishmael Addo, and Joe Fameyeh are the best strikers ever.”
Although Prince Tagoe spent one season in the Ghanaian top flight, he remains one of the most celebrated Ghanaian strikers to have ever played the GPL.
