Ghanaian football legend Samuel Osei Kuffour has expressed deep regret over his failure to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) during his playing career, admitting that it remains one of his biggest disappointments.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, the former Bayern Munich and Black Stars defender revealed how painful it is to look back on his illustrious career without an AFCON trophy to show his children.
“It kills me every day that I didn’t win the AFCON because there is nothing that I can show to my children,” Kuffour said.
Kuffour, who enjoyed a stellar career in European football, won multiple domestic and international trophies, including the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2001.
However, despite his contributions to the Black Stars, he never managed to lift Africa’s most prestigious football trophy.
The closest he came was a fourth-place finish in the 1996 edition of the tournament.
He was also part of Ghana’s historic squad that qualified for the country’s first-ever FIFA World Cup in 2006, helping the Black Stars reach the Round of 16.
