Spokesperson for Asante Kotoko’s China supporters’ chapter, Martin Tawiah, has expressed deep disappointment with the club’s handling of player exits following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, criticizing the trend of releasing key players without proper financial or strategic benefit to the team.

Speaking on MTV, Tawiah questioned the decision-making of the current management, particularly regarding the free exits of experienced players such as Justice Blay and Frederick Asare.

“Wholesale signing and sacking players doesn’t help the team. We thought that would change under the new management. We the supporters in China are not happy about that. Last season, 10 players exited without the team getting any benefits. This season, they’ve let go of about 5 or 7 players that Kotoko would’ve benefited from,” Tawiah lamented.

He emphasized that the departures of Blay and Asare, two players with notable contributions to the team, should have been better managed, particularly from a financial standpoint.

“Justice Blay and Frederick Asare are leaving for free but Kotoko could’ve sold them looking at their achievements,” he stated.

On Justice Blay’s exit, he highlighted the player’s value in multiple positions.

“Justice Blay’s departure could’ve been resolved. He is important in defense and midfield, so such a player shouldn’t be allowed to go. There are so many things that contributed to him leaving, but I don’t want to talk about that. They shouldn’t have let him go.” he told Afia Akoto on Mothers FC/TV.

Tawiah also defended Wisdom Fernando, a player he believes was not given a fair opportunity to make an impact before being let go.

“Wisdom Fernando should’ve stayed because he didn’t get the chance to prove himself. He showed good qualities in the few games that he played,” he added.

His comments echo growing concern among Kotoko supporters over the club’s squad management, as the team undergoes yet another transition ahead of the 2025/26 season.
